Alan and l have just returned from cycling around France for 7 weeks. 1600km on e-bikes carrying just a few essentials in our backpacks.
Starting in Paris we collected our e-bikes from Decathlon and took the train to the Burgundy region where we settled in for the night. Canal riding is easy, flat & picturesque passing thru small villages, collecting our bread, cheese & wine for lunch or evening meal. October/November 2023
Our indoor heated magnesium pool & wellness facility is coming to a complete finish. By this time next month November, we should be enjoying a warm soak, fitness classes & small group encounters.
Frosty mornings awakens our senses, it’s getting harder to get out in the garden with the frost sitting heavy on the landscape. Plants are dormant, the grass has stopped growing which is a blessing for the chief gardener of lawns, daylight is less, but this is winter so why are we constantly surprised by frosty morning, wetter days & snow? Winter gives us time to reflect & move forward with our plans. Time is spent de cluttering the house and our minds whilst we warm our bones by the fire and fill our bodies with hearty stews. August/September 2023

Frosty mornings and the clean fresh air tickles our skin. Grass has stopped growing and the days seem shorter and darker, or maybe it's just us sleeping in and going to bed earlier. Whatever it is, we are embracing this wonderful property we call home. Tall gum trees swaying in the breeze while the owls bark at night. June/July 2023
Situated 800 meters above sea-level, it's not unusual to wake to a cover of snow, this excites Alan & Teddy to no end. They quickly race to the door and start playing together in the snow before it disappears. It's quick to melt, so if you’re here when it snows, get out, play around and enjoy this magical time.
Easter is nearly here 9th April, think chocolate eggs, easter egg hunt. We have increased our little flock of chooks so we have plenty of real eggs. We like to share, so our guests in Bullarto get to enjoy the freshest of eggs possible. April/May 2023

Christmas, done & dusted & New Year’s Eve a forgotten memory of 2022. We are all looking forward to a fantastic 2023, one filled with hope, excitement & travel. New adventures are just around every corner, we just need to sit back and look, smell the roses & take some me time.
November, the month to start planning your CHRISTMAS GETAWAY November 2022
We have 2 fantastic locations, Shillings & Pence Cottage in beautiful Bullarto or our 3 cottages in Daylesford. Imagine waking to bird song, crisp clean air and complete privacy. Private forest walking tracks, picnic spots in the forest, and an afternoon aperitif in the Pavilion overlooking the water.
Spring has sprung as they say, but it’s still feeling like winter. Bulbs around the area are flowering, and the creeks are overflowing. The waterfalls at Sailors & Trentham Falls are magnificent, and both places are definitely worth the visit or picnic.
I know it’s early but Christmas is just around the corner, less than 80 days (about 10 weeks) so it’s time to start planning your Christmas stay.
A spring has been put back into our step. Spring brings a new lease of life on almost everything, bulbs are flowering, fruit is forming, and leaves are bursting into shape. Days are brighter and longer, the sky is clear and life on the land is looking up after the closing of winter.
We are finally settling into winter, cool crisp mornings with a cover of frost on the ground. Fires burning all night, we have hydronic heating so after Easter the fires are lit, and they will continue to roar until end October. After that we clean and freshen up the fireplaces & cooktops ready for next winter.
Wood, wood & more firewood. Having split, stacked and chopped our winter supply during spring & summer we are finally feeling the warmth of our labour. It’s a tough gig living in Bullarto at this time of the year but it also brings so many more pleasures.
Winter in Bullarto can be magical. At 800mt above sea level, overnight temperatures are below average, and can be very windy. This creates a beautiful background for an intimate stay, with cool, crisp days, and morning and evening mists.
Autumn is traditionally the season of plenty, and Bullarto is no exception. The leaves are bathed in vibrant colours, rich earthy scents fill the air, and there are plenty of plump, sun-ripened produce in the garden.
